BlockThreat is now a public good

In our darkest hour, let’s unite, keep learning, and keep fighting the good fight. Every briefing, analysis, and archive is now free.

BlockThreat is now a public good

Hey folks,

Just as promised at DSS, BlockThreat is now free for everyone. Every weekly briefing, every monthly analysis, and the full archive are open to all.

This wasn’t an easy decision. A week ago, North Korea’s TraderTraitor stole $6.3B from Binance, the largest hack in history in crypto or anywhere else. It followed Bybit’s $1.5B hack last year, Bitget’s $387.5M hack about a month ago, and many more. In the midst of these record setting compromises, DeFi projects big and small get hacked daily while thousands of users keep getting phished, all further eroding trust in our industry. At the same time, one talented security researcher after another leaves for good, while fewer new defenders choose crypto at all.

It’s always darkest before the dawn. Projects are shutting down left and right, researchers fear being replaced by AI, and defenders are burning out in the face of relentless attacks. And yet the darkest times are also the best times to hunker down and build, learn, celebrate our heroes, and practice the craft for the inevitable return. By opening BlockThreat to everyone, I hope to support the next generation of security researchers, raise security awareness by sharing the best our community has to offer, and help defenders survive the next year, so that when the market rises from the ashes, we will be stronger and safer than ever. This is my small contribution to the world I would like to see.

To everyone who paid for a subscription this year: thank you! Your support has carried BlockThreat through a brutal bear market. Your subscription will now continue as a voluntary sponsorship (see below) at your current rate, unless you choose otherwise. You can change or cancel anytime from your account page. If you are on an annual plan and would rather have a refund for the remaining months, just email newsletter@blockthreat.com.

How to keep BlockThreat going

Going free means it’s now up to you, the readers, to decide whether BlockThreat keeps going or disappears along with so many other voices as our community dwindles. Paid subscriptions have been replaced with voluntary support:

  • Deputy: $5/month or $50/year
  • Sheriff: $20/month or $200/year
  • Marshal: $200/month or $2,000/year, with your company’s name in every edition
  • One-time contribution in any amount, which would be very much appreciated

Become a sponsor

Teams can also support BlockThreat by advertising in an edition or with enterprise subscriptions, which provide tailored threat intelligence reports and private briefings. Neither ever influences coverage.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and being part of this extraordinary community. See you in the next edition.
